DESCRIPTION:Today we remember female engineering students murdered at Ecole Polytechnique\, December 6\, 1989. The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women was created by the Government of Canada as a result of this unspeakable tragedy. \nGET INVOLVED:\nRemember the names of the female victims\, light a candle\, attend commemorative events\, and add your voice for gender equality. \nTHE FACTS – VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN CANADA:\nBeing female remains the highest risk factor for violence against women and girls\, and young women in Canada face 12x the risk for intimate partner violence as compared to young Canadian males. SUMMARY:Hockey Helps the Homeless 2023
DESCRIPTION:Willow Place is grateful to be a beneficiary of the annual HOCKEY HELPS THE HOMELESS fundraising tournament in Winnipeg\, Manitoba. Each year\, teams compete to raise the most funds for homelessness-serving charities in Canada. In Winnipeg\, our co-beneficiaries include Resource Assistance for Youth (RAY)\, and Red Road Lodge. Team pick a pro player captain on draft night\, based on who raises the most funds – highest fundraising team picks first.  Players get to fulfill a dream of skating with the pros while raising much-needed funds for event beneficiaries. Teams are sold out for this year\, including four women’s teams – heartfelt appreciation to HHTH headquarters and the Winnipeg organizing committee for their hard work and dedication. \nIMPORTANT: Community can attend games for NO COST and other ways to support include sponsorship\, donations\, and volunteering. DESCRIPTION:November is DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH and Willow Place is collecting donations of new pajamas for women and children in our shelter program.
